SATURDAY 20th SEPTEMBER - MATCH REPORT MARK WORTHINGTON
Farsley AFC 5 New Mills AFC 2

Goals - Danny Culverwell, Aidan Muffett
A very youthful New Mills side ran out in their first ever appearance in the Lancashire Galaxy League against a Farsley side which finished 4th last season and contained several first team players.
The Millers only had Gaz Prendergast over the age of 18 on the field, but started confidently, passing the ball and enjoying good periods of possession. After 10 minutes a ball into the box fell to Jake Hall who's goal bound effort was blocked 5 yard out by the Farsley centre half, penalty New Mills. Gaz Prendergast placed the ball and sent the keeper the wrong way and the ball a yard wide of the right post.
Farsley were very direct moving the ball from back to front quickly and closing down to win second ball in midfield. Following a scrappy period of play, the Farsley midfield won the ball in midfield and a through ball caught the Millers defence a bit square allowing Farsley to finish calmly into the inside left of the Millers Goal. The Millers re grouped and continued to enjoy good possession. Again pushing forward a ball into the box was cleared to the centre circle where an advancing Danny Culverwell took one touch and dispatched an unstoppable shot from fully 55 yards into the top right hand corner of the Farsley Goal 1-1. With the game moving toward half time, Farsley again delivered a direct ball into the right winger who drove into the box and hit a shot past the Millers Keeper who will feel he could have done better.
HALF TIME FARSLEY 2 - 1 MILLERS
The second half started strongly again for New Mills and they were rewarded with a flowing move which found Gareth Prendergast free on the right and his excellent low cross was met at full pace by Aidan Muffett who fired into an empty net to pull the Millers back Level. 2-2. The millers continued to press creating several half chances and scored again from a well worked move with the ball rolled square across the edge of the box by Muffett for Gaz to fire home from 20 yards only to have it ruled out for off side by the linesman, much to the shock of everyone in the ground.
The game continued with both sides playing excellent passing football at pace, and the Millers looking comfortable. Farsley then made a substitution, bringing on the First teams top scorer from last season, who is recovering from injury. This turned things Farsleys way in the last 15 minutes with three long balls played through the middle dispatched in quick succession by the substitute who showed great pace, good feet and an eye for goal, giving the game a lop sided score line which doesn't reflect the play.
Overall the squad has to be happy. Most of the boys were making their debut for the Millers and had never played or even trained together. The opposition were very good, probably as good as anything any of the boys have played against as Millers Youth team players and we should look forward to an enjoyable season where we can develop, playing grown up football against teams who play it the right way.
